Anthony, a graduate forward, scored both the opening and winning goals for Michigan State. Sophomore Bella Najera also contributed with her eighth goal of the season and an assist on Anthony's first goal. Assists were also credited to Gabby Mueller and Adelle Francis.
In terms of shots, Texas had a slight edge over Michigan State with a 17-16 advantage. However, Michigan State led in shots on goal with an 8-7 margin. Kaitlyn Parks, the Spartan goalkeeper, made five saves during the match.
Head coach Jeff Hosler commented on the match saying, "I mean, what a tough battle," acknowledging it as their first overtime win in postseason play. He praised Texas for their resilience but noted his team's ability to apply pressure and ultimately secure the victory in overtime.
The game began with Texas taking an early shot before Michigan State gained control around the five-minute mark. Anthony put MSU ahead after capitalizing on a free kick from Najera near the 18-yard box.
Texas equalized in the 33rd minute through Amalia Villareal. The teams went into halftime tied at 1-1 after neither could capitalize further before the break.
The second half saw both teams exchanging chances until Najera scored again in the 73rd minute to give MSU a temporary lead. Holly Ward brought Texas level once more in the 79th minute, leading to overtime where Anthony's decisive goal secured Michigan State's progression.
Reflecting on his team's performance and looking ahead to Sunday's matchup against Duke, Hosler expressed excitement: "I'm super thrilled for our team...to go get the result we did today."
