Michigan State University secured a 6-2 victory against the US National Team Development Program in an exhibition game held on Thursday night in Plymouth. The match featured standout performances from several players, including Isaac Howard, who contributed a goal and two assists.
The Spartans took an early lead, finishing the first period ahead 3-1 and extending it to 5-2 by the end of the second period. Five different players scored for MSU, with program alumnus Charlie Stramel netting the first goal. Gavin O'Connell, Griffin Jurecki, Patrick Geary, and Tiernan Shoudy also found the back of the net during the game. Matt Basgall was instrumental in assisting plays, registering two assists.
Richard Gallant initiated scoring just over five minutes into the game with assistance from Jack Murtaugh. The pair collaborated again for a second-period goal.
In goal for MSU was Trey Augustine, who made three saves and allowed one goal during his time on ice in the first period. Luca Di Pasquo took over goaltending duties for the remaining periods, making 14 saves. Patrick Quinlan guarded the net for NTDP, recording 34 saves.
After this victory, Michigan State has a break before facing Lindenwood in a two-game series over Thanksgiving weekend. The Spartans will meet the Lions on Friday (Nov. 29) and Sunday (Dec. 1) before resuming Big Ten play in December.
