The Michigan State women's basketball team secured a decisive 101-44 victory over Detroit Mercy at the Breslin Center. The win marks the Spartans' sixth consecutive victory this season, while the Titans experienced their first loss, now standing at 2-1.
Freshman forward Juliann Woodard led the Spartans with 17 points despite playing only 14 minutes. She was efficient from the field, making seven of her eight attempts and three out of four from beyond the arc. Junior forward Grace VanSlooten contributed 16 points, along with seven rebounds and five assists. Graduate guard Jaddan Simmons scored a career-high 15 points for MSU and recorded three steals. Junior guard Theryn Hallock added 11 points and matched her career high with four steals, while redshirt-freshman Kennedy Blair scored 10 points.
Kailey Starks led Detroit Mercy off the bench with 13 points.
Michigan State's defense was strong throughout, forcing numerous turnovers and limiting Detroit Mercy to just eight points in both the first and fourth quarters. "The Spartan defense held Detroit Mercy to 44 points," noted MSU's post-game report.
MSU has scored over 100 points in three games this season, showcasing their offensive prowess under head coach Robyn Fralick. This victory continues their dominance over Detroit Mercy, marking their 21st consecutive win against them overall and extending their lead in the all-time series to 26-7.
Looking ahead, Michigan State will travel to California for the Acrisure Classic in Palm Springs on November 26-27, where they will face Cal.
