Michigan State's wrestling team is set to continue its 2024-25 season with a dual meet against Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. The match will take place on Sunday, November 17, at 1:00 p.m. and will be available for streaming on ESPN+. Michigan State head coach Roger Chandler remarked, "Ohio is a strong program with a number of ranked guys in their lineup that will be a great early season test for our team."

This encounter marks the second consecutive season the teams have faced each other, with Michigan State having won their last meeting 20-11 on January 6, 2024. Historically, Michigan State holds an 11-3-1 record against Ohio since their first meeting in the 1926-27 season.

Michigan State began its dual season successfully with a victory over American University. Redshirt freshman Remy Cotton secured the win with a technical fall at 197 pounds. At the MSU Open following this victory, Michigan State saw nine wrestlers place and one champion emerge—redshirt freshman Caleb Weiand in the 125-pound division.

The Spartans are fielding one of the younger teams in the Big Ten Conference this year, featuring ten wrestlers who are redshirt sophomores or younger. Among them is returning NCAA qualifier Tristan Lujan and five others who started ten or more duals last season.

Ohio University enters this matchup after defeating Wisconsin earlier this month. The Bobcats had notable performances at the MSU Open where Jeremy Olszko and Peyten Kellar claimed titles in their respective divisions. Kellar also earned All-American status last year by finishing fifth at the NCAA championships.

Looking ahead, Michigan State will participate in the Black Knight Invitational next weekend hosted by Army University.
