Michigan State's women's basketball team faced a challenging game against Eastern Kentucky University, according to Head Coach Robyn Fralick. Reflecting on the match, Fralick noted the difficulties encountered in the first half and commended her team's improved performance in the second half.
"I thought tonight was a good challenge for us," said Fralick. "I loved our second half response to be able to make some changes and play better."
Fralick emphasized the need for players to be more proactive rather than waiting for opportunities. "We challenged our players. Frankly, I think we played really soft," she remarked about their initial approach.
The coach highlighted areas of growth, particularly how the team responded under pressure. "We have a lot to learn in the middle of frustration," she stated.
Juliann Woodard's performance was also praised by Fralick. "To score 16 points in six minutes is incredible," she said, acknowledging Woodard's readiness and toughness despite limited playtime earlier in the game.
Fralick also discussed her decision-making regarding player fouls, specifically with Theryn Hallock after her fourth foul. "We trust her and it will be a good lesson," she commented.
Reflecting on what changed after halftime, Fralick noted that pressing with purpose made a significant difference. She stressed that moving the ball offensively without rushing was crucial for success.
Overall, Coach Fralick expressed pride in her team's ability to adjust during the game: "I was proud of our kids for adjusting."
