Trey Augustine has been recognized as the Big Ten Second Star of the Week following his impressive performance in a recent series against Ohio State. The announcement was made on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

During the games held at Munn Arena, Augustine stopped 51 out of 54 shots, leading to victories with scores of 4-2 and 4-1. This marks the second consecutive season that Michigan State University (MSU) has swept Ohio State in their Big Ten opener. Augustine has won six out of seven career games against Ohio State.

The sophomore goaltender currently leads the Big Ten in games played with seven appearances and holds more victories than any other goalie in the league with six wins. His goals-against average stands at 1.57, ranking third in the Big Ten and 13th nationally, while his save percentage is .941, placing him fourth in the conference and 12th nationwide. Among his six victories this season, he is 3-1 against ranked teams.

Last year, Augustine was noted as the youngest starting goaltender in Division I hockey and may continue to hold that distinction for the 2024-25 season. Only two goalies younger than Augustine have participated in games this season: Hampton Slukynsky at Western Michigan and Nicholas Kempf at Notre Dame. Augustine has started seven of MSU's eight games so far and is a potential candidate for Team USA's World Junior Championship team set to compete later this year.

This weekend, Augustine and the fourth-ranked Spartans will host Notre Dame to conclude a four-game homestand with matches scheduled for Friday at 7 pm and Saturday at 8 pm.
