Michigan State University is preparing to host the annual Michigan State Open wrestling tournament at Jenison Field House on Saturday, November 9. The event will feature competitors from 19 NCAA Division I programs and other institutions.
Matches will be streamed live on FloWrestling, with brackets available on TrackWrestling. Doors open at 8:00 a.m., and the first matches are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Parking is available at Lot 62 or the Kellogg Center garage, as parking at Jenison Field House will be reserved for a hockey game later that evening.
Head Coach Roger Chandler expressed enthusiasm about hosting the event, stating, "We're excited to host the annual Michigan State Open this weekend, which has always been one of the tougher early season open tournaments in the country. It's always great to compete against other programs from the Big Ten and the state of Michigan, in addition to the programs that travel from across the country to compete."
Participating teams include Air Force Prep, Bellarmine, Bryant & Stratton College, Bucknell, Central Michigan*, Cleary, Cornerstone, Davenport*, Edinboro*, Findlay*, Grand Valley State*, Henry Ford College, Illinois, Indiana*, Kent State*, Lake Erie College, McKendree, Michigan State*, Michigan*, NJRTC, Northern Oklahoma College, Northern Illinois*, Northwestern*, Ohio State, Ohio*, Oklahoma State*, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Sierra College, Spartan Combat RTC*, University of Rio Grande, Wheaton College, Wisconsin* and Wyoming Seminary. Teams sending ten or more competitors are marked with an asterisk.
The Spartans began their season with a victory over American University last weekend with a score of 20-12. This marks their first season-opening dual since 2015-16 and extends their streak of non-conference dual wins to 23 since 2020. Key performers included Andy Hampton and Remy Cotton among others.
A clear bag policy will be enforced for attendees: bags must not exceed dimensions of 12" x 6" x 12", and metal detectors will be used for security checks.
