Michigan State's Grace VanSlooten has been named to the Cheryl Miller Award preseason watch list. This announcement was made by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The award recognizes the nation's top small forwards in women's college basketball.
VanSlooten, a junior forward, is among five Big Ten players on the list. She joins Indiana's Yarden Garzon, Maryland's Saylor Poffenbarger, Ohio State's Cotie McMahon, and UCLA's Angela Dugalić. In her first season with Michigan State after transferring from Oregon, VanSlooten averaged 14.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game during her time with the Ducks. She recently scored 16 points in an exhibition win against Wayne State.
The Cheryl Miller Award is now in its eighth year and is named after Hall of Famer Cheryl Miller, a three-time Naismith Player of the Year. Fan voting for the award will start on Friday, Nov. 1 at hoophallawards.com.
Michigan State will begin their regular season facing Oakland on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Breslin Center.
