Michigan State athletics gears up for competitions across multiple sports

Michigan State University's athletic teams have a busy schedule ahead from October 30 to November 5. The football team will face Indiana at home on Saturday, aiming to win the Old Brass Spittoon. Indiana currently holds an 8-0 record.

In cross country, both men's and women's teams are set to compete in the Big Ten Cross Country Championships in Champaign, Illinois. The competition is stiff with multiple ranked teams participating.

Women's soccer begins their Big Ten Tournament as the fourth seed against Rutgers. Freshman Kaleigh McPherson has been recognized as Big Ten Freshman of the Week for her performance against Purdue.

The men's soccer team wraps up its regular season at DeMartin Stadium against Rutgers. This match also marks Senior Celebration day.

Volleyball returns home after a successful road trip to host matches against Minnesota and Ohio State. Last week, they achieved a notable comeback victory over USC.

Men's basketball starts its season under head coach Tom Izzo with a game against Monmouth on November 4. Women's basketball opens their season the following day against Oakland.

The men's tennis team will participate in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Mini Duals, while women's tennis hosts the Spartan Invite at home.

Wrestling begins its new season traveling to American University, with Roger Chandler leading as head coach for his tenth year.

Finally, field hockey concludes its regular season facing Indiana after recently defeating Iowa but losing to Northwestern. Sophomore goalkeeper Lyra Gavino was honored as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for her outstanding performances.
