Michigan State University's men's basketball team is set to face Ferris State in their final exhibition game before the 2024-25 regular season. The match will take place on Tuesday, October 29, at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed on B1G+. Matt Merrifield will provide play-by-play commentary, with Jack Steger as the color analyst and Marin Klein reporting from the sidelines. In a recent exhibition against Northern Michigan on October 13, Michigan State secured a victory with a score of 70-53. Freshman guard Jase Richardson contributed 11 points while sophomore forward Xavier Booker added another 10 points. The team shot an overall field goal percentage of 43.1%, improving to 51.9% in the second half, including a strong performance from beyond the arc at 47.1%. This was Head Coach Tom Izzo's first visit back to his alma mater since graduating from Northern Michigan in 1977.

The Spartans ended their previous season with a record of 20-15 overall and tied for sixth place in the Big Ten Conference with a conference record of 10-10. They extended their NCAA Tournament appearance streak to its longest ever within the Big Ten Conference history by participating for the twenty-sixth consecutive year but were eliminated by North Carolina after defeating Mississippi State in the first round.

As they prepare for this season, MSU faces significant changes by replacing four starters who were responsible for over half of last year's scoring output along with substantial contributions in rebounds and assists. Returning players include senior guard Jaden Akins who led last year’s games played while averaging double figures in scoring per game alongside notable performances by junior guards Tre Holloman and Carson Cooper among others.

This year sees new additions through two transfers: Frankie Fidler from Omaha where he earned First Team All-Summit League honors during his tenure; meanwhile Polish center Szymon Zapala joins after playing pivotal roles at Longwood University helping them achieve both conference success and tournament appearances previously.
