The Spartans, led by junior Taylor Kehoe's 5-under par 67, shot a 7-under par 281 on Saturday. This performance moved them into fifth place among 17 teams with an overall score of 4-under par 572.
The three-day event is being played on a par-72, 6,178-yard course and will conclude on Sunday. Michigan State had entered the second round tied for sixth place but improved their standing with their strong showing.
Duke University leads the tournament at 14-under par 562. North Carolina and Florida State are tied for second place at 9-under par 567. Ole Miss holds sixth place with a score of 6-under par 570.
Taylor Kehoe delivered her second-best individual round with a bogey-free performance. Her career-best was an 8-under par during last year's Landfall Tradition when she was playing for Alabama. Both Kehoe and senior Katie Lu are tied for ninth place individually at 3-under par 141 after Lu shot a consistent under-par round.
Senior Brooke Biermann contributed significantly to the team's success with a score of 3-under par in her round, placing her in a tie for 24th position at even-par overall. Junior Paula Balanzateguiis and freshman Catalina Monroy are further down the leaderboard in ties for other positions.
Sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia competed as an individual and finished her round with a score of one-over-par.
The Spartans will begin their final round on Sunday morning alongside Ole Miss and Clemson.
