Michigan State achieved a 3-0 victory against Canisius in Buffalo, marking their fourth win of the season. Trey Augustine recorded his first shutout of the season and the fourth of his career, stopping 15 shots during the game. The Spartans maintained a narrow lead until they scored two power-play goals late in the third period following a major penalty on Canisius defender Carter Patterson.
Tanner Kelly opened the scoring for Michigan State midway through the second period. Despite pressure from Canisius, who sought an equalizer with back-to-back power plays in the third period, Michigan State's defense held firm. Joey Larson and Daniel Russell capitalized on their power-play opportunities to secure MSU's victory.
Kelly contributed both a goal and an assist, while freshman Shane Vansaghi provided two assists. Michigan State dominated in shot attempts with a significant edge over Canisius, who blocked 17 shots and received 32 saves from goalie Ethan Robertson.
The teams will face each other again on Saturday evening to conclude their series in Buffalo.
