Michigan State University's men's soccer team retained the Big Bear Trophy after a scoreless draw against the University of Michigan. The match, held at DeMartin Stadium, marked the 25th annual Battle for the Big Bear.

"Let's put this in perspective. It's on TV, so people can stay at home. It's a Tuesday night, and we had like 3500 fans, so that's amazing," MSU head coach Damon Rensing stated. "That shows the community and really the state of Michigan. I know there were people driving from all areas of the state that came in from the west side, Detroit area, so kudos to our people and to do that on a Tuesday night with it on national TV- that's massive."

The Big Bear Trophy was introduced in 2000. The Spartans have maintained possession since their 2-0 victory over UM in 2022 and last season's draw in Ann Arbor. Overall, Michigan State leads the series 14-5-5.

In terms of historical matches between these teams, MSU also leads with an all-time record of 34-12-10 and a home record of 17-3-5.

Following this draw, Michigan State holds a season record of 5-6-3 overall and is positioned fourth in the B1G table with a conference record of 4-3-1. Meanwhile, Michigan stands at 6-3-5 overall and ties for eighth place in league standings with Northwestern due to their conference record of 1-3-4.

MSU's redshirt-junior goalkeeper Zac Kelly recorded his sixth clean sheet this season by making four saves during the match. His performance included an impressive leaping save early in the second half.

"As always Zac was great tonight," Rensing commented about Kelly's performance. "He wasn't called on to make a ton of saves but sometimes that's harder... He's got five shutouts in the Big Ten."

Isaiah Goldson, U-M's goalkeeper, equaled Kelly's effort with four saves as well.

During this evenly matched game where both teams registered four shots on goal each; MSU had more corner kicks than UM (6 compared to UM’s one).
