Michigan State University's football team saw two of its players honored by the Big Ten for their performances in a recent victory over Iowa. Jonathan Kim, a graduate placekicker, was named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after setting a school record with six field goals during the game. Freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh earned recognition as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Kim, from Fredericksburg, Virginia, made six out of seven field-goal attempts against Iowa, including a 55-yarder in the fourth quarter. His performance surpassed previous records held by Paul Edinger and John Langeloh and tied a modern-day Big Ten record set by Jake Moody in 2018. Kim's overall contribution included 20 points against Iowa, which is a top mark for a kicker in modern-day Big Ten history.
Marsh achieved his second 100-yard receiving game this season with eight catches for 113 yards. He previously recorded eight receptions and 194 yards in a win against Maryland earlier this season when he also received freshman honors. Marsh is noted as the first freshman in the Big Ten to win this award twice this season.
The Michigan State Spartans will next face off against Michigan on October 26 at Ann Arbor. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
