Michigan State University's women's golf team is set to host the NCAA East Lansing Regional at Forest Akers West Course from May 6 to May 8. The event marks the second time in five years that MSU has hosted an NCAA Regional, previously doing so in 2019.
The Spartans will tee off alongside Pepperdine and Kentucky at 9 a.m., with live scoring available through Golfstat. Michigan State's lineup includes Paula Balanzategui, Katie Lu, Brooke Biermann, Leila Raines, Valentina Rossi, and Shannon Kennedy.
Twelve teams are competing in this regional: Southern California, Northwestern, Florida, Pepperdine, Michigan State, Kentucky, Denver, Oklahoma State, Indiana, Augusta, Illinois State and Oakland. Additionally, six individual competitors will participate.
Michigan State is making its eighth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regionals under head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll. "The Spartans are looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the third time in the last four years," according to the press release.
Katie Lu leads MSU with a scoring average of 71.13 over 32 rounds this year and was named All-Big Ten First Team last week. Brooke Biermann holds a scoring average of 72.94 and Leila Raines has been awarded the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award with a scoring average of 73.00.
MSU's record books feature several players from this year's team. Junior Katie Lu has posted one of the best single-season averages in program history while also achieving two individual wins this season. Senior Leila Raines ranks sixth all-time with her career average score at MSU.
Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll continues her leadership into her 27th year as head coach at MSU. Under her guidance since 1999-2014 and again from 2016-2024—the team achieved significant milestones including eight Big Ten titles and multiple appearances in both NCAA Championships and Regionals.
