Michigan State's volleyball team concluded its non-conference schedule with a 3-1 loss to North Carolina at Carmichael Arena. The Spartans finished their four-match week, which began in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

The result leaves Michigan State with a 7-4 record, while North Carolina improved to 8-1 as they prepare for Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Spartans are set to begin Big Ten action on Friday, September 27 against Michigan.

Sophomore middle blocker Zuzanna Kulig had a standout performance, achieving eight blocks in the match and totaling 24 blocks over the week. She also contributed eight kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Junior middle blocker Evie Doezema recorded ten kills on sixteen attempts and maintained an efficient .647 hitting percentage for the week.

Fifth-year libero Nalani Iosia led with 22 digs, and senior setter Rachel Muisenga achieved her second double-double of the week with 17 assists and 11 digs. Senior setter Julia Bishop provided 20 assists, while sophomore Taylah Holdem added a team-high of eleven kills.

Despite out-blocking North Carolina by twelve to eight, Michigan State was narrowly surpassed in hitting percentages (.269-to-.238) and total kills (57-to-52).

North Carolina took an early lead in set one and maintained it despite efforts from Michigan State to close the gap. In set two, MSU found momentum to even the match but fell short again in sets three and four after competitive rallies.

Looking ahead, Michigan State will face off against Michigan in Ann Arbor on Friday before traveling to University Park for a match against Penn State on Sunday.
