EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State's Nick Marsh has been recognized as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week following his standout performance in a narrow 27-24 victory over Maryland. Marsh's contribution was significant, with eight catches totaling 194 yards, placing him tenth in Spartan history for single-game receiving yards and marking the second-highest by a freshman.
During a critical moment in the fourth quarter, with Michigan State trailing 24-17 and just over four minutes remaining, sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles delivered a 77-yard touchdown pass to Marsh. This play tied the game and was MSU's longest touchdown reception since Jayden Reed's 85-yard catch against Youngstown State on September 11, 2021.
Marsh dominated the fourth quarter with four receptions accumulating 151 yards. Besides the decisive touchdown catch, he had a notable 57-yard reception earlier in that period and additional catches of 11 and six yards during MSU's game-winning drive. This drive concluded with Jonathan Kim's crucial 37-yard field goal with one second left on the clock.
Marsh also earned recognition as the 247Sports True Freshman of the Week for his performance against Maryland. He is currently ranked third in the Big Ten conference for receiving yards per game, averaging 102.5 from nine catches totaling 205 yards.
The Spartans (2-0 overall, 1-0 Big Ten) will face Prairie View A&M (1-1) on Saturday, September 14 at Spartan Stadium. The match is scheduled for a broadcast on Big Ten Network and can be streamed via FOX Sports app.
