Spartan rowers achieve top CRCA scholar-athlete honors

Eighteen rowers from Michigan State University have been recognized as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar-Athletes, the most from any program in the Big Ten and tied for second nationally. The announcement was made on Thursday.

To earn this honor, student-athletes had to meet specific academic and athletic criteria. They needed to be at least in their second year of eligibility, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and participate in a significant portion of their institution's NCAA or IRA eligible races.

Head coach Stavey Rippetoe expressed pride in the team's achievements, stating, "I'm very proud of our team and their diligence with their schoolwork. It's great to see so much discipline and passion in academics on our team."

The Spartan honorees come from various academic backgrounds:

- Julie Armstrong, Senior from Troy, Mich., majoring in Communication

- Kat Borders, Senior from Granger, Ind., majoring in Human Biology

- Lucy Botting, Senior from Christchurch, New Zealand, majoring in Creative Advertising

- Jillian Cox, Sophomore from Brighton, Mich., majoring in Physiology

- Lillian Davidson-Walshe, Sophomore from Ann Arbor, Mich., majoring in Economics

- Maya Elbaranes, Senior from Vienna, Austria, majoring in Supply Chain Management

- Freya Engel, Junior from Wokingham, England, majoring in Criminal Justice

- Ellise Flessland, Senior from Grosse Ile, Mich., majoring in Special Education & Learning Disabilities

- Carolynn Garner, Senior from Traverse City, Mich., majoring in Human Biology

- Sabrina Gottschalk, Junior from Utica, Mich., majoring in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

- Madisen Holtz, Sophomore from Novato Calif., majoring in Public Affairs & International Relations

- Lizzie Johnston ,Senior from Cleveland Ohio ,majoring Animal Science

- Claudia Kingma ,Senior Norton Shores,Mich. ,major Kinesiology

- Ella Kubas Graduate Milton Canada Financial Planning Wealth Management
