Talbot started day two of the competition in 19th place with 3843 points but made significant progress by placing 12th in the 110m hurdles. He further improved his standing with a personal best throw of 50.90 meters in the discus event, earning him second place and propelling him to ninth overall.
His performance continued with a pole vault clearance of 4.61 meters and a javelin throw measuring 53.92 meters, which secured his ninth-place finish on the leaderboard. Texas' Leo Neugebauer won the national title with a collegiate record of 8961 points.
Reflecting on day one, Talbot was initially positioned in 19th place after events including the 100m dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, and the 400m dash at Hayward Field.
Despite being seeded 22nd among competitors based on season scores, Talbot showed determination throughout his third consecutive outdoor national championship appearance.
Looking ahead to future competitions, several Spartans will participate in upcoming Olympic Trials. Heath Baldwin will compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials for decathlon after opting out of this meet for preparation purposes. Kate Stewart-Barnett is set to attend Canadian Olympic Team Trials for steeplechase later this month.
MSU alumni Tori Franklin aims for her second Olympics appearance as she competes in triple jump trials while Morgan Beadlescomb will run in the U.S Olympic Trials' 5000m event representing Adidas.
