Ryan Talbot, representing Michigan State Track and Field, concluded the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships decathlon in 19th place with a total of 3843 points. The event took place at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Talbot, a fifth-year athlete from Fenton, Michigan, entered the competition ranked 22nd among the nation's top 24 scores for the season. His personal best score for 2024 stands at 7535. On Wednesday, he participated in five events: the 100m dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400m dash.
He began his third consecutive outdoor national championship meet by securing eighth place in the 100m dash with a time of 10.79 seconds. In the long jump event that followed, he recorded a leap of 6.38 meters.
In shot put, Talbot achieved a distance of 13.59 meters on his final attempt and placed 14th in this event. He cleared a height of 1.83 meters in the high jump but fell short of his personal best by three inches.
Talbot finished strong on day one by placing fourth in the 400m dash with a time of exactly 48 seconds.
The second day for Talbot and Michigan State Track and Field will begin Thursday with the 110m hurdles at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET and continue with events including discus throw, pole vaulting, javelin throw concluding with the1500m race under Hayward's lights at around10:56 p.m.. All events will be available for live streaming via ESPN+ or ESPN2.
