Former Michigan State University figures have been nominated for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, as announced by the National Football Foundation (NFF). The 2025 ballot includes former All-America offensive tackle Flozell Adams and past head coaches Nick Saban and Darryl Rogers.
Gideon Smith, who made history as the first African American to play intercollegiate athletics at Michigan State, is also on the ballot. Smith coached at Hampton University from 1921-1940 and led his team to multiple championships.
The process of selecting the inductees involves votes from over 12,000 NFF members and current Hall of Famers. Their decisions will be reviewed by the Honors Court, chaired by NFF Board Member Archie Griffin. The official announcement of the class will occur in early 2025.
Inductees will be honored during a ceremony in Las Vegas on December 9, 2025. Criteria for selection include recognition as a First-Team All-American, achievements post-football, and community involvement.
Mark Dantonio was recently inducted into the 2024 class. Other notable Michigan State inductees include Lorenzo White and Kirk Gibson.
Flozell Adams earned accolades during his college career and went on to play professionally in the NFL. Nick Saban's coaching tenure at Michigan State was marked by several successful seasons, leading to further accomplishments with other teams. Darryl Rogers guided Michigan State to a Big Ten championship during his time as head coach.
The Hall of Fame aims to honor players and coaches who have made significant contributions to college football history.
