The 2016-17 Michigan State Hockey Team, led by Head Coach Tom Anastos, concluded their season with an overall record of 7 wins, 24 losses, and 4 ties. Within the Big Ten Conference, they secured a record of 3 wins, 14 losses, and 3 shootout losses, placing them sixth in the standings.
The team's performance throughout the season included notable victories against Princeton with a score of 6-2 on October 28 and a win over Michigan Tech in overtime on November 4 with a score of 3-2. Another significant triumph was their victory against North Dakota on November 25 with a close score of 4-3.
Despite these successes, the team faced challenges during matchups against highly ranked opponents such as Denver and Minnesota. Their encounters with Denver resulted in two consecutive losses (1-2 and 1-3) in October. Similarly, games against Minnesota in December ended in defeats (2-4 both times).
