The 2009-10 Michigan State Hockey team had a notable season under the guidance of Head Coach Rick Comley. The team finished with an overall record of 19 wins, 13 losses, and 6 ties, achieving a second-place finish in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) with a conference record of 14-8-6.

The team's success included winning the Great Lakes Invitational Championship. Key matches during the season included victories against Clarkson, Maine, Western Michigan, Nebraska-Omaha, and Michigan. Notably, they secured wins against Michigan on both November 13 and January 29.

Despite their strong performance throughout the season, the team faced challenges as well. They encountered defeats from Miami and Wisconsin among others. Their journey in the CCHA Tournament concluded with losses to Michigan on March 12 and March 13.

Coach Rick Comley's leadership was supported by Assistant Coach Tom Newton, Associate Head Coach Brian Renfrew, and Volunteer Assistant Coach Rob Woodward among others.
