The 2005-06 Michigan State Hockey Team had a notable season, securing the title of CCHA Tournament Champions and reaching the NCAA Tournament Regional Final. Under the leadership of Head Coach Rick Comley, the team achieved an overall record of 25 wins, 12 losses, and 8 ties. In the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), they finished second with a conference record of 14-7-7.

The team's roster included players such as Tim Kennedy, Jeff Dunne, Matt Shouneyia, Chris Lawrence, Tyler Howells, Bryan Lerg, Chris Mueller, Chris Snavely, Kurt Kivisto, Steve Mnich in the back row; Tim Crowder, Daniel Vukovic, Jim McKenzie in the middle row; and Dominic Vicari and Chad Hontvet among others in the front row. The coaching staff was comprised of Volunteer Assistant Coach Rob Woodward and Assistant Coaches Tom Newton and Brian Renfrew.

Throughout their season schedule that began on October 8 against Wayne State with a win of 5-1 at the Lefty McFadden Invitational in Dayton Ohio. They continued to perform strongly with victories over teams like North Dakota and Western Ontario early in their season. However some challenges arose when facing higher-ranked opponents such as Cornell where they experienced both a loss and a win during consecutive matches.

As they progressed through their schedule Michigan State faced various teams including Northern Michigan Nebraska-Omaha Ohio State Wisconsin Minnesota Bowling Green Alaska Fairbanks Michigan Notre Dame Miami Lake Superior State New Hampshire Maine among others each presenting unique challenges.

The team concluded its regular season by competing fiercely against Alaska Fairbanks during three games from March 10 to March 12 before advancing to face off against Michigan on March 17 which resulted in another victory for them followed by defeating Miami on March 18.

Their journey came to an end after playing against New Hampshire on March 25 winning narrowly but then losing to Maine on March 26 closing out what was an eventful year for this dedicated group of athletes coaches managers trainers who contributed significantly towards making it memorable not only through achievements accolades earned along way but also spirit camaraderie shared amongst themselves throughout entire duration campaign embarked upon together collectively representing institution proud tradition excellence upheld within realm collegiate sports particularly ice hockey discipline itself thereby leaving lasting impact legacy future generations aspire emulate build further upon moving forward into subsequent seasons beyond horizon yet come await discovery realization fruition potential inherent therein awaiting exploration pursuit thereof diligently earnestly passionately wholeheartedly embraced without reservation hesitation whatsoever ultimately culminating
