Michigan State hockey team concludes eventful 2003-04 season

The 2003-04 Michigan State Hockey Team, under the leadership of Head Coach Rick Comley, concluded their season with an overall record of 23 wins, 17 losses, and 2 ties. In the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), they achieved a third-place finish with a conference record of 17-9-2.

The team's journey included participation in several notable tournaments. They began the season with a victory against Windsor in an exhibition match, winning 6-0. Throughout the season, they faced various opponents including Ohio State, Western Michigan, and Notre Dame. The team had significant victories such as defeating Ferris State with an impressive score of 8-0 on October 31.

In November, Michigan State experienced mixed results against Wayne State and Minnesota but managed to secure a win against Wisconsin in overtime. Their performance continued into December where they won against Northern Michigan and participated in the Great Lakes Invitational at Joe Louis Arena.

Entering the new year, the team maintained competitive form with wins over UMASS-Lowell and Bowling Green. However, they faced challenges against Miami and Alaska Fairbanks. The regular season concluded with matches against Nebraska-Omaha before entering the CCHA Tournament.

During the tournament held at Joe Louis Arena, Michigan State secured victories over Ferris State but fell to Northern Michigan. Their season ended after facing Minnesota-Duluth in the NCAA Midwest Regional at Van Andel Arena.

The roster for this season included key players such as Dominic Vicari, Brock Radunske, Mike Lalonde, Jim Slater among others. The coaching staff comprised Assistant Coaches Tom Newton and Brian Renfrew along with Volunteer Assistant Coach Damon Whitten.
