The 2002-03 Michigan State Hockey Team, led by Head Coach Rick Comley, concluded the season with an overall record of 23-14-2 and a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) record of 17-10-1, placing them fourth in the conference. The team roster included notable players such as Brian Maloney, John-Michael Liles, and Duncan Keith.

Throughout the season, Michigan State faced various opponents. They began their campaign with a victory against Western Ontario and had mixed results against teams like Denver and Colgate. Key wins included those against Lake Superior State, Alaska Fairbanks, and Nebraska-Omaha.

In December, they participated in the Great Lakes Invitational at Joe Louis Arena but faced a setback against Boston University. However, they secured a win over Michigan Tech during the same event.

As the season progressed into January and February, Michigan State continued to demonstrate strong performances with victories over Notre Dame and Michigan. Their CCHA tournament journey ended with a loss to Northern Michigan at Joe Louis Arena.

The team's coaching staff included Assistant Coaches Tom Newton and David McAuliffe. The support staff comprised Athletic Trainer Dave Carrier and Strength Conditioning Coach Mike Vorkapich among others.

Michigan State's hockey team displayed resilience throughout their season despite facing challenges from formidable opponents both within their conference and beyond.
