The 2000-01 Michigan State University (MSU) hockey team achieved significant success, capturing multiple titles and reaching the NCAA Frozen Four. Under the leadership of Head Coach Ron Mason, the team ended the season with an impressive overall record of 33-5-4 and a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) record of 21-4-3, securing first place.

Throughout the season, MSU claimed victories in several tournaments. They emerged as champions in the Great Lakes Invitational (GLI), CCHA regular season, and CCHA Tournament. Their journey also led them to compete in the NCAA Frozen Four.

The roster featured notable players such as Ryan Miller, John Nail, Sean Patchell, Rustyn Dolyny, Damon Whitten, Adam Hall, Andrew Bogle, Joe Blackburn among others. The coaching staff included Assistant Coaches Tom Newton and David McAuliffe and Volunteer Assistant Coach Jim Mullin.

The team's performance throughout the season was marked by several key wins against strong opponents. They secured victories over top-ranked teams like Boston College and Wisconsin in December. Notably, they defeated their rivals from Michigan multiple times during both regular-season play and tournament matches.

Despite their successes throughout the year, MSU's run concluded at the NCAA Frozen Four where they faced North Dakota but were unable to advance further after a loss.
