Seven athletes from the Spartans participated in the third day of the NCAA East First Round at the University of Kentucky, with graduate student Heath Baldwin setting his fifth school record of the season. Despite this achievement, none of the Spartans managed to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

The final day of regionals will see three Spartan women competing. Graduate student Lauren Freeland qualified for the 1500m finals on Thursday, while graduate student Katie Osika will participate in the 5K and junior Opal Jackson will compete in the discus event.

For a chance to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, from June 5-8, competitors must place within the top 12 in their events. They will face off against top finishers from both regional competitions.

During Friday's men's events, all five participants failed to meet the top-12 threshold required for nationals qualification. Baldwin narrowly missed out by finishing 13th in the 110m hurdles, just .001 seconds behind the qualifying mark. Nevertheless, Baldwin set a new Michigan State University (MSU) school record with a time of 13.71 seconds, surpassing Will Agodu's previous record from 2019.

Baldwin now holds five MSU records: 110m hurdles, 60m hurdles, javelin, heptathlon, and decathlon. This ties him with Morgan Beadlescomb for most individual program records at MSU.

In other events on Friday, two MSU women competed in a rescheduled pole vault competition but did not advance past their regional debuts. Sophomore Sophia Mettes finished with her second-best season mark of 4.10m for 23rd place and Natalie Blake placed 37th.

Senior Tyler Pritchett narrowly missed advancing as well by finishing 18th in the 3000m steeplechase while fellow senior Andrew Nolan was placed at number twenty-eight in that same event. Freshman Dalton DeBeau ended up thirty-eighth in discus throwing at fifty-one point thirty-four meters whereas junior Brady Schultz ranked forty-fifth after clearing one point ninety-nine meters high jump height.

Looking ahead to Saturday's schedule typically focused on decathlons; Baldwin decided only one event participation here instead opting-out championship preparations aiming towards US Summer Olympic Trials happening two weeks later instead because he is currently USA No1 World No3 decathlete after scoring an impressive eight thousand four hundred seventy points during Mt SAC Relays held back April seventeenth-eighteenth meeting Olympic standards too!
