The 1995-96 Michigan State Hockey Team, under the guidance of Head Coach Ron Mason, achieved an overall record of 28-13-1 and a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) record of 22-7-1, tying for third place in the conference. The team was noted for its participation in the NCAA Tournament.

The roster included notable players such as Anson Carter, who played a key role in the team's performance throughout the season. Assistant coaches Tom Newton and Dave McAuliffe supported Head Coach Mason during this successful run.

The season began with victories against Boston College and Miami but also saw losses to teams like Maine and Bowling Green. The team had several notable wins, including triumphs over Notre Dame, Cornell, and Ohio State. They experienced mixed results against top-ranked teams such as Minnesota and Michigan.

Throughout the season, the Spartans participated in various tournaments like the Great Western Freezeout held in California and the Great Lakes Invitational at Joe Louis Arena. Their journey ended at the NCAA West Regional in East Lansing, Michigan with a loss to UMass-Lowell.

Trainer Dave Carrier and equipment manager Tom Magee were part of the support staff ensuring that players were well-prepared for each game. The contributions of student managers Jason Ostrofsky and Vince Adamo along with video coordinator Dan Singleton were integral to team operations.

Despite some challenging matches towards the end of their campaign, including games against Ferris State in the CCHA Tournament and a final loss to UMass-Lowell in March 1996, Michigan State's hockey team demonstrated resilience throughout their season.
