The 1983-84 Michigan State hockey team had a remarkable season, finishing fourth in the NCAA Tournament under the guidance of Head Coach Ron Mason. The team's overall record was 34 wins, 12 losses, and no ties, with a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) record of 21 wins and 9 losses, tying for second place in the conference.

Throughout the season, Michigan State showcased its strength with several significant victories. They started strong with consecutive wins against Northeastern and Western Michigan. Notable performances continued against teams like Illinois-Chicago and Northern Michigan. However, they faced challenges as well, including losses to Bowling Green and Lake Superior State.

The team showed resilience during the CCHA Tournament at Joe Louis Arena by defeating Ohio State and Western Michigan. In the NCAA Regional held in East Lansing, they triumphed over Boston College twice. Despite their efforts, the team's journey ended at the NCAA Frozen Four in Lake Placid with an overtime loss to North Dakota.

Assistant coaches Terry Christensen and Shawn Walsh supported Head Coach Ron Mason throughout this successful season. The roster included standout players such as Kelly Miller and Craig Simpson, contributing to their impressive performance.

Michigan State's hockey program demonstrated skill and determination throughout this competitive season, making a lasting impact on college hockey history.
