Despite a loss to Western Michigan on October 18 with a score of 1-5, they rebounded with a win against the same opponent on October 19 by a narrow margin of 4-3.

Michigan State demonstrated resilience in games that went into overtime. Notably, they defeated Ferris State on November 1 with a tie at overtime (5-5) and later won against Team Canada in an exhibition match on November 16 with an overtime score of 5-4.

The team's performance was marked by notable victories such as defeating Northern Arizona twice in early February with commanding scores of 12-2 and 9-3. Their prowess continued into March where they emerged victorious against Boston College in two consecutive matches during the NCAA Regional held in East Lansing.

Coach Ron Mason's guidance was instrumental throughout the season as he led his team to become formidable contenders across various tournaments.
