Michigan State University's junior golfer, Katie Lu, has been recognized as an honorable mention All-American by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). This accolade comes after a season where Lu played a pivotal role in leading the Spartans to their NCAA Championships appearance, marking the third time in four years and the 14th under Head Coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll.

Lu is now the ninth Spartan golfer to receive All-American honors and becomes the 15th All-American under Slobodnik-Stoll's leadership. She follows in the footsteps of Allyson Geer-Park and Valery Plata, who received similar honors in 2020.

"This is a great honor for Katie and so well deserving for her after the tremendous season she had for our team," stated Slobodnik-Stoll. "Katie has worked very hard since she came to Michigan State to be the best, not only on the golf course but in the classroom. She has become one of the best golfers in the Big Ten and in the country while carrying a 3.9 grade-point average. She's the epitome of a Spartan and what we expect in our program."

Lu's performance this year included being named an All-Big Ten Conference First Team selection. She was MSU's top finisher seven times throughout a season that saw them win one team event, secure three runner-up finishes, and place among the top-five eight times.

In terms of individual achievements, Lu posted some of her best numbers yet, which also rank highly within Michigan State's history. Her scoring average this season was 71.54—a personal career-best that ranks second all-time at MSU behind Sarah Burnham’s record from 2017-18.

Looking ahead to her senior year in 2024-25, Lu will enter ranked fourth all-time at MSU with a scoring average of 73.55. This year alone, she won two events: shooting a 3-under par 213 at Mary Fossum Invitational and sharing medalist honors with Brooke Biermann at Briar's Creek with a score of 5-under par 211.

Lu consistently performed well throughout her competitions this season—finishing among top-5 four times, top-10 seven times, and top-20 eleven times out of thirteen events played.

Despite falling short as a team during NCAA Championships' final round stroke play mid-May; individually Lu advanced into fourth round—becoming first player ever from MSU doing so consecutively since last year when she tied for position number forty-five finishing ten-over-par total score two hundred ninety-eight points overall across rounds played there too!
