Michigan State University's field hockey team has announced its 2024 schedule, featuring an 18-game lineup with nine matches at Ralph Young Field. Head coach Helen Knull shared the details of the upcoming season.
The Spartans will begin with two exhibition games against local rivals. They will travel to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to face Central Michigan on Tuesday, August 20, followed by a match in Ann Arbor against Michigan on Friday, August 23.
For their regular season opener, MSU will head to California for the first time since 2022. They are set to play UC Davis on Friday, August 30 and will compete against defending America East champions California on Sunday, September 1.
Upon returning from the West Coast, the Spartans will host Vermont on Friday, September 6 and Ohio on Sunday, September 8. This marks their third encounter with Ohio in four seasons.
The team is scheduled to visit Bellarmine for only the second time in program history on Friday, September 13. They will then host Colgate for a first-ever matchup on Sunday, September 15.
Conference play starts away in Columbus against Ohio State on Friday, September 20. The Spartans return home to face Michigan again on Sunday, September 22.
Non-conference action resumes at Ball State on Sunday, September 29. A midweek home game follows against Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday, October 1. MSU will also welcome Kent State during this period.
Later in October, Maryland visits East Lansing for a game on Friday the 11th before MSU embarks on three consecutive road games starting at Central Michigan on Sunday the 13th. The trip continues with Big Ten matches at Rutgers and Penn State over the weekend of October 18-20.
The final conference home games are set for late October against Iowa and Northwestern—the reigning Big Ten Champions—on October 25 and October 27 respectively.
The regular season concludes with an away fixture at Indiana on Friday, November 1. Maryland is slated to host the Big Ten Tournament from November 6-10 at College Park's Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
