Michigan State sophomore Ozan Baris has progressed to the round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championships after securing his second win at the tournament. In a match on Tuesday, Baris overcame an initial setback by losing the first set 4-6 but bounced back strongly against Stanford's Samir Banerjee, ranked 55th, with subsequent victories of 6-0 and 6-2. Earlier, he had defeated Auburn's Tyler Stice, ranked 31st, with scores of 6-2 and 6-4.

Baris is now set to face TCU's Jack Pinnington, who is ranked 13th according to the latest ITA player rankings. Pinnington comes into this match on a winning streak of twelve consecutive victories, ten of which were against ranked opponents. He played a crucial role in TCU's recent NCAA Team Championship title run and hasn't lost since March.

While Baris continues his singles campaign, he and his partner Max Sheldon were eliminated from the doubles competition. The duo was defeated by Wake Forest's Dhakshineswar Suresh and Holden Koons with scores of 6-1 and 6-2 in their opening match. Despite this loss, Baris and Sheldon have been recognized as Michigan State University's most successful doubles team ever.

Another Spartan participant in the singles competition was Hohmann who faced Oliver Tarvet from San Diego. Hohmann lost with scores of 1-6 and 4-6 marking an end to his collegiate tennis career. A graduate transfer from Oyster Bay, N.Y., Hohmann contributed significantly during his time at MSU achieving Second Team All-Big Ten honors.

The upcoming match between Baris and Pinnington will be available for viewing on ESPN+ for subscribers or streamed for free on Track Tennis without commentary.
