The 1980-81 Michigan State Hockey Team, led by Head Coach Ron Mason, concluded their season with an overall record of 12 wins, 22 losses, and 2 ties. In the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), they secured a record of 7 wins, 20 losses, and 1 tie, placing them in the tenth position.

Throughout the season, the team faced various opponents. Notable victories included games against Northern Michigan on October 25th with a score of 6-2 and Michigan Tech on November 26th where they triumphed with an impressive score of 8-2. The team also saw success in matches against Notre Dame on December 12th with a narrow win of 1-0 and Lake Superior State on December 19th with a final score of 5-2.

Despite these victories, the team encountered several challenges throughout their schedule. They suffered defeats in both games against North Dakota in late November and were defeated twice by Minnesota in February.
