Michigan State hockey team concludes competitive season under coach Amo Bessone

The 1973-74 Michigan State Hockey Team, led by Head Coach Amo Bessone, completed their season with an overall record of 23 wins, 14 losses, and one tie. Within the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), they achieved a record of 15-12-1, securing fourth place.

The team's performance was marked by notable victories and challenging matches throughout the season. They began strong with back-to-back wins against Western Ontario on November 2nd and 3rd. Following these successes, they continued to secure victories over teams such as Notre Dame and Air Force in November and December.

Their participation in the Great Lakes Invitational saw them triumph over Boston College and Michigan Tech at the end of December. The team also experienced a series of intense games against Wisconsin in January, where they split victories across four encounters.

In February, Michigan State faced off against Minnesota-Duluth twice, winning both games convincingly. As March arrived, the team engaged in crucial WCHA playoff matches against Wisconsin and Michigan Tech. They managed to secure a win against each but ultimately fell short in subsequent games.

Throughout the season, players like Tom Ross, Robert Harris, William Hourigan, Fred Smith, Dave Kelly, Steve Oulahen contributed significantly to the team's efforts alongside Assistant Coach Alex Terpay and Trainer Gayle Robinson.

Overall, the team's journey through the season was filled with competitive spirit and determination under Coach Bessone's leadership.
