Michigan State University (MSU) baseball team secured a narrow 9-8 victory against Eastern Michigan University (EMU) at McLane Stadium in East Lansing on Tuesday night. This game marked MSU's final non-conference midweek contest of the 2024 regular season and the start of a four-game homestand.
The Spartans improved their record to 23-25, while the Eagles fell to 14-35. MSU has now won five consecutive games against EMU and holds an all-time record of 101-61-1 in their matchups.
"Every win's a good one and we knew Eastern Michigan was going to be highly-motivated," said MSU head coach Jake Boss Jr., who previously coached at EMU. "We knew we had to be ready to go tonight but unfortunately it wasn't pretty, but they don't have to be pretty, you just have to score one more than they do."
Both teams utilized six pitchers during the nearly four-hour game. Spartan reliever Aidan Arbaugh earned the win with three innings of solid relief, marking his first victory since April 2022 after recovering from an injury. Nolan Higgins closed out the final two innings for his second save of the season.
"I'm happy for Aidan Arbaugh, it's been a long time since he's pitched that much," Boss commented on Arbaugh's performance. "Nolan Higgins has had his struggles too, but I thought he was really good tonight too."
Offensively, Randy Seymour led MSU with two hits and three runs scored. Dillon Kark contributed three RBIs and Jack Frank tied his personal best with his 19th stolen base of the season.
MSU now turns its focus to a Big Ten Conference series against Nebraska this weekend as they aim for a spot in the Big Ten Tournament. The series will include televised games on Friday and Saturday.
Fans are encouraged to attend these events which include Senior Day celebrations and other community engagement activities.
