The 1953-54 Michigan State University (MSU) hockey team, led by head coach Amo Bessone, concluded their season with a record of 8 wins, 14 losses, and 1 tie. Within the Western Intercollegiate Hockey League (WIHL), they achieved a record of 4 wins, 13 losses, and 1 tie.

The season featured several notable games. MSU began with a loss to St. Lawrence on November 27 but secured victories against Clarkson and Ontario Agricultural College in subsequent matches. The team faced a challenging exhibition game against the Detroit Red Wings on December 15, resulting in a significant defeat.

In January, MSU encountered consecutive losses against Michigan and Minnesota. February brought close contests with Denver and Colorado College, including an overtime victory over Colorado College on February 10. A noteworthy game occurred on February 19 when MSU tied with Michigan in overtime.

March marked the end of the season for MSU with mixed results against North Dakota and Michigan Tech. They achieved an overtime win against North Dakota on March 6 but finished the season with alternating outcomes against Michigan Tech.

Coach Amo Bessone's leadership during this challenging season is remembered as part of MSU's storied hockey history.
