Nick Williams led Michigan State to a dramatic 3-2 victory over the University of Michigan with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning at McLane Stadium. Randy Seymour, who had reached third base after a single and advancing on Jack Frank's hit, scored the winning run.
Williams described his first career walk-off as "a blur" but expressed joy in being the one to secure the win for his team. MSU head coach Jake Boss Jr. praised his team's performance, calling it "a really good character win." He noted that they played well defensively and pitched effectively.
The game marked MSU's second walk-off win this season, following a similar victory against Rutgers in March. The Spartans previously defeated Michigan earlier this season with a decisive 16-6 win.
Joseph Dzierwa was instrumental for MSU, pitching eight innings and recording nine strikeouts while allowing only three hits. Coach Boss commended Dzierwa for his improvement since last year. Aaron Mishoulam took over in the ninth inning and secured four strikeouts across two innings without conceding any hits or runs.
Dillon Kark contributed significantly with a solo home run in the fifth inning, giving MSU an early lead before Michigan tied it up again in the eighth. Both teams initially scored in their first at-bats before settling into a defensive battle until late-game heroics decided the outcome.
MSU now holds an overall record of 20-22 and is 8-8 in conference play, while Michigan stands at 24-22 overall and 10-6 within their conference.
The series continues Saturday afternoon at McLane Stadium with another game scheduled for Sunday. Following this series, MSU will host Bowling Green on Tuesday evening.
