Michigan State's softball team concluded its 2024 season with a series sweep against Purdue, winning 2-1 at Bittinger Stadium. This marks the Spartans' first Big Ten series sweep since 2018 against Rutgers. Michigan State finished the season with a record of 21-30 overall and 7-16 in the conference, while Purdue ended at 25-26 overall and 11-12 in the Big Ten.
Senior Liv Grey started strong for Michigan State, striking out five batters over 3.1 innings. Relief pitching was handled by senior Ashlyn Roberts and junior Madison Taylor. Taylor secured the win by allowing only two hits and one walk while striking out two over the final innings.
The Spartan pitchers performed exceptionally throughout the weekend, allowing only eight hits and one run while recording 22 strikeouts.
Offensively, sophomores Sydney Doloszycki and Britain Beshears each hit solo home runs in the fourth inning. Beshears also went 2-for-3 in her performance. Her home run marked her 15th of the season, placing her second in Michigan State's history for single-season home runs.
The game saw back-to-back home runs from Doloszycki and Beshears in the fourth inning, prompting a pitching change from Purdue as Michigan State took a 2-0 lead. Purdue managed to score one run via a sacrifice fly but failed to capitalize further due to Taylor's effective pitching.
Taylor ended her season with a notable ERA of 2.84 over her last innings pitched, maintaining a scoreless streak over her final games.
