Going from paying for equipment with no scholarship at a Division III school to playing Division I baseball at Michigan State University (MSU) represents a significant change for Aaron Mishoulam and Nick Ferazzi. These two pitchers, who transferred from southern schools known for their baseball culture, have adapted to the colder climate in pursuit of further education and athletic competition in a Power Five conference.

MSU head coach Jake Boss Jr. praised the maturity and readiness of Mishoulam and Ferazzi. "I think they were probably ready to go a little quicker than the other newcomers just because of their age and their maturity," said Boss. "I think they have a great appreciation for some of the things that we have here at Michigan State."

Ferazzi initially studied at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. The transition to MSU was driven by his interest in the Broad College of Business's Master's program in Finance, along with his admiration for East Lansing's campus. "It's a great program, great coaching staff, great team, beautiful place," he stated.

Mishoulam moved from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Despite Emory's reputable baseball program and favorable weather conditions, he sought the opportunity to compete in the Big Ten while pursuing his Master's degree in social work. "Playing at the next level, potentially, and just getting an opportunity to showcase my talents and skills at this level," he remarked about his decision.

The recruiting process for graduate students like Mishoulam and Ferazzi differs as coaches seek experienced players who can contribute immediately. Boss highlighted their experience as a key factor: "The maturity level that these guys could bring in and the idea that they can come in and contribute right away I think is probably the most important thing."

Both players have made significant contributions on the field this season. Mishoulam leads with a 2.98 ERA and has played pivotal roles during games against Michigan last weekend, helping MSU secure its first series sweep over Michigan since 2016.

Ferazzi has made 13 appearances with eight starts this season, ranking third on his team in innings pitched (43) while securing multiple strikeouts across various games.

Following Tuesday's canceled game due to inclement weather, MSU will resume B1G weekend action against Minnesota from May 10-12 before returning home for four final regular-season games starting May 14 against Eastern Michigan.
