For the second time this season, Liv Grey, a senior pitcher at Michigan State University, has been recognized as the Big Ten Conference Pitcher of the Week. The announcement was made by the Big Ten Conference office on Monday afternoon. Grey is now one of only three Spartan pitchers to receive two B1G weekly honors in a single year, joining Jessica Beech from 2003 and Erica Strutz from 1999.
This accolade marks Michigan State's fourth weekly award of the season, tying for the second-most in program history with previous records set in 1999 and 2003.
In her recent performances, Grey achieved a record of 2-0 with an ERA of 0.46 and a WHIP of 0.65, limiting opponents to a .115 batting average. Over 15.1 innings, she struck out 24 batters.
Grey began her week by pitching four shutout innings against Oakland on Tuesday night, leading MSU to an 11-0 victory while striking out eight batters.
During the weekend series against Purdue, crucial for Michigan State's chances to qualify for the B1G Tournament, Grey delivered her first complete game shutout of the season in a 3-0 win in game one. She allowed only three hits and struck out nine Purdue batters.
In game two against Purdue, Grey combined efforts with junior Madison Taylor to secure a 1-0 shutout victory and earned her first save of the year by striking out two batters in the seventh inning. In game three, she contributed with 3.1 innings of one-hit pitching and five strikeouts to help Michigan State sweep Purdue with a final score of 2-1. This sweep marked Michigan State's first B1G series sweep since 2018.
Other recognitions included Nebraska's Sydney Gray being named B1G Player of the Week and Northwestern's Emma Raye receiving B1G Freshman of the Week honors.
