EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State's softball team concluded its final home game of the 2024 season with a decisive victory over Oakland, securing an 11-0 win by run rule on Wednesday night at Secchia Stadium. This marks the Spartans' first five-inning run rule win this season.

The victory improved Michigan State's overall record to 18-30, while Oakland's record fell to 22-17. The Spartans are set to finish the regular season in West Lafayette, Indiana, facing Purdue with hopes of advancing to the 2024 B1G Tournament.

Senior Liv Grey delivered a strong performance, striking out eight Golden Grizzlies over four innings without allowing any walks and conceding just two hits. Junior Faith Guidry contributed to the shutout by recording a strikeout in the fifth inning.

Michigan State's offense was effective throughout the game, with four players achieving multi-hit performances. Sophomore Hannah Hawley, senior Anna Fox, junior Macy Lee, and junior Mik Anthony each recorded two hits. Senior Alexis Ross and sophomore Sydney Doloszycki both hit triples, while Anthony hit her first home run for Michigan State in the fourth inning.

Doloszycki, Lee, Anthony, and Ross each had two RBIs. Hawley and sophomore Britain Beshears also drove in runs. Fox stole her sixth base of the season and scored three times.

The Spartans took an early lead with back-to-back singles at the start of the first inning. A double by Lee brought in two runs for a 2-0 lead that Michigan State maintained throughout the game. An error by Oakland in the third inning allowed MSU to extend their lead to 3-0.

In a productive fourth inning, Michigan State scored eight runs after batting around their order. Anthony began with a single and capped off with a two-run homer later in the inning. With runners on base, Ross deviated from her usual slap hitting technique to clear bases with a triple to right field before being driven home by Hawley's single.

Fox's second single placed two runners on base before Doloszycki hit MSU’s second triple of the inning for an 8-0 advantage. Beshears' ground out enabled Doloszycki to score before Lee's single set up Anthony’s home run over center field.

Oakland left runners stranded in scoring positions during both fourth and fifth innings; Brooklyn Plitz and Jen Krizka each singled for Oakland while Sydney Cambell (16-7) struck out two batters but conceded seven runs (five earned) across six hits through 3.1 innings.
