Men's Tennis at Michigan State University is set to participate in its second NCAA Tournament, facing Denver on Friday. The Spartans aim for their first win in the tournament's history. "In a season of program firsts MSU will seek it's first ever NCAA Tournament win," said Head Coach Harry Jadun, who has led the team to a record 22 wins this season.
The Spartans, entering with a 22-6 record, recently lost to Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal. Their opponent, Denver, remains undefeated at 23-0 and holds the Summit League titles. This match marks the first encounter between the two teams.
MSU's lineup includes notable players such as Ozan Baris and Ronald Hohmann III, both ranked in ITA singles. Baris and teammate Max Sheldon have also been selected for the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships starting May 20.
Four Spartans received Big Ten postseason honors on April 25. Ozan Baris was named B1G Player of the Year while Aristotelis Thanos earned Freshman of the Year honors. "Baris... becomes the first Spartan to be named Player of the Year since the award's inception in 1987," noted a release from MSU.
The upcoming matches will determine if MSU advances further or faces Boston University or Harvard next.
