Michigan State leads Tar Heel Invitational after two rounds

Michigan State University's women's golf team has taken the lead at the Tar Heel Invitational after two rounds. The event is held at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Freshman Catalina Monroy led the team with a standout performance, shooting a 3-under par 67.

The tournament spans three days and consists of 54 holes on a par-70, 6,081-yard course. The final round will take place on Sunday. Michigan State achieved a score of 3-over par 283 in Saturday's second round, which was the second-best round of the tournament. This effort moved them into first place with an overall score of 9-over 569 (286-283).

Tennessee follows closely in second place at 12-over par 572, while Louisville holds third place at 14-over par 574. Wake Forest is fourth with a score of 15-over par 575, and Duke is fifth at 16-over par 576.

Monroy improved significantly from her initial position tied for 34th after the first round. Her performance included three birdies and an eagle on the front nine, culminating in five birdies total for her round. She is now tied for eighth place individually with a score of 1-over par 141 (74-67).

Senior Katie Lu contributed to the team's success with a round of 1-under par 69 and is tied for eleventh place at an overall score of 2-over par 142 (73-69). Sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia stands tied for fourteenth place at a total of 4-over par 144 (71-73), while senior Brooke Biermann shares nineteenth place at an aggregate score of 5-over par145 (71-74). Junior Taylor Kehoe holds thirty-fourth position with a combined score of7-overpar147(71-76).

The Michigan State team will tee off again on Sunday morning at9:30a.m., playing alongside competitors from Tennessee and Louisville.
