MSU tennis advances in ITA Midwest Regionals; players head to North Carolina

Michigan State University's men's tennis team continues to make strides at the ITA Midwest Regionals held at the MSU Tennis Center. On Sunday, junior Ozan Baris advanced to the singles semifinals after defeating Michigan's Will Cooksey with scores of 6-4, 7-6 [7-5]. In other matches, junior Aristotelis Thanos faced a tough loss against Illinois' William Mroz, ending with scores of 5-7, 6-3, 6-7 [4-7]. Freshman Matthew Forbes secured a win over Michigan's Patorn Hanchaikul with scores of 7-6 [7-2], 7-5.

Baris continued his successful run by defeating Ohio State's Li in the semifinals with a decisive score of 6-1, 6-1. However, Forbes was unable to overcome Mroz in their match, losing 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles action, sophomore Taym Alazmeh and freshman Danial Rakhmatullayev were defeated by Illinois' Bowers/Viiala with scores of 4-6, 4-6. Meanwhile, the duo of Sheldon and Forbes fell to Michigan's Kittay/Young after a close contest that ended in scores of 6-7 [9-11], 6-4, 4-10.

As the ITA Midwest Regionals conclude in East Lansing, three Spartans are set to travel to Winston-Salem for the M15 Winston-Salem event from October 14th to October 17th. Senior Josh Portnoy, junior David Saye, and freshman Mitchell Sheldon will represent MSU in North Carolina.
