Michigan State ties for second at Tar Heel Invitational's first round

Michigan State University's women's golf team is currently tied for second place at the Tar Heel Invitational, which is being held at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The event features 17 teams and spans three days, with a total of 54 holes to be played on the par-70, 6,081-yard course.

After the first round of play, Michigan State recorded a score of 6-over par 286. This places them alongside Wake Forest in second position, just two strokes behind Kentucky, who leads with a score of 4-over par 284. Louisville follows closely in fourth place with a score of 7-over par 287, while Tennessee completes the top five at 10-over par 290.

The team's performance was led by senior Brooke Biermann, junior Taylor Kehoe, and sophomore Ana Sofia Murcialead. All three are tied for 12th place individually after shooting scores of 1-over par 71. Notably, Biermann is tied for second among competitors with four birdies in the first round. Kehoe distinguished herself by tying for third with a total of thirteen pars.

Senior Katie Lu concluded her round tied for the twenty-fifth spot with a score of 3-over par 73. Freshman Catalina Monroy ended her day tied for thirty-fourth at four over-par seventy-four.

The Spartans are scheduled to tee off again on Saturday morning at approximately ten past ten Eastern Time and will compete alongside their close rivals Kentucky and Wake Forest.
