Michigan State University's hockey team is set to host the University of Windsor in an exhibition match this Friday at Munn Ice Arena. The Lancers, with a 2-7 record from nine games against Canadian universities, will face the Spartans, their only U.S. college opponent this season.
The Spartans have started their season with a 3-1-0 record, including victories over Lake Superior State and a split series against Boston College. This match marks MSU's last non-conference game before they begin Big Ten play in November.
Recently, Michigan State celebrated its 600th victory at Munn Ice Arena during its 50th anniversary year. The arena has hosted 955 Spartan games, with MSU holding a record of 600-282-73.
Junior transfer Charlie Stramel was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week after scoring two goals in the win against Boston College. "Stramel contributed a pair of goals to MSU's Saturday 4-3 victory," noted the press release. Daniel Russell and Isaac Howard are tied for the team lead in goals, each having scored three times this season.
Goalie Trey Augustine recorded a season-high 32 saves in the recent game against Boston College and currently leads nationally with 108 saves.
Looking ahead, Michigan State will travel to Buffalo for a series against Canisius before returning home for back-to-back Big Ten series against Ohio State and Notre Dame.
