Michigan State Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom Izzo expressed gratitude to the Marquette community in a letter following his team's recent game at Northern Michigan University. The event, held at the Superior Dome, drew nearly 12,000 attendees and was described by Izzo as an experience that exceeded his expectations.

Izzo, who has roots in the Upper Peninsula (U.P.), conveyed appreciation on behalf of Michigan State University, its basketball team, staff, fans, and alumni. He stated: "Thank you from Michigan State University. Thank you from the Michigan State Basketball team. Thank you from all of our staff, our fans and our alumni."

The visit was significant for Izzo personally as it marked a return to his hometown area. Reflecting on this connection, he said: "I was born in the U.P., I grew up there and I have never forgotten the U.P." He added that seeing such support for their game brought him pride.

The event's success resulted from collaboration between athletic directors Alan Haller of MSU and Rick Comley of NMU, as well as presidents Kevin Guskiewicz and Dr. Brock Tessman. Their joint efforts were complemented by contributions from both universities' marketing departments.

Izzo concluded with heartfelt thanks to those who have influenced his journey: "Last weekend was a homecoming to honor everyone who has been a part of my life and for all of the people who helped me get to where I am today."
