At the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational, Michigan State University's cross country teams achieved top 10 finishes at the Burke Golf Course.

"We had a solid day on our men's side," said the MSU Director of Cross Country and Track & Field. "It was not our best day but still a solid performance and a place to build from. I asked the women's team to get out aggressively, and it was a hair too much. I feel confident in our team and our future race management as we progress through the season."

The event began with the women's Blue 5k race, won by Northern Arizona with 52 points. BYU's Lexy Halladay-Lowry claimed the individual title, clocking in at 15:57.5. Michigan State placed ninth with 300 points.

Freshman Rachel Forsyth led the Spartans in her first collegiate race, finishing with a time of 16:45.7. Senior Taylor Ewert secured 60th place with a time of 17:04.4, while Eleanor Kendall set a personal best at 17:11.3.

Another freshman contributor for Michigan State was Taylor Pangburn, who completed her run in 17:19.8, while Sarah Forsyth also recorded a personal best with her time of 17:21.1.

In the men's Blue 8k race, Notre Dame took first place with 55 points, followed by Northern Arizona with 68 points. Texas Tech's Ernest Cheruiyot won individually at 22:20.3. The Spartans finished fifth overall with 167 points.

Andrew Nolan emerged as Michigan State's top runner, finishing in 19th place with his personal best time of 23:06.8 in an 8k race. Riley Hough followed closely behind in 24th place at another personal best of 23:10.9, while Parker Lambers continued his strong season by surpassing his previous record from the Spartan Invitational (23:20).

In other races, Makenna Veen ran unattached and finished seventh in the women's Open 5k at a time of 16:32.2; Katelyn Stewart-Barnett came ninth (17:31), and Madison Osterberg also ran unattached to finish tenth (17:33). Jasper Cane secured fifteenth position in the men's Open 8k (24:06), followed by Drew Seabase in eighteenth (24:18).

Michigan State will compete next at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals on October 19.
